First incident of poll violence in AP


In a first incident of poll violence in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party candidate from Kodangal assembly constituency in Mahbubnagar district P Revanth Reddy was injured in firing allegedly by some Congress workers at Husnabad village on Wednesday.

In the ensuing clash between TDP and Congress workers following the incident, a Congress worker succumbed to bullet injuries when Revanth’s gunman fired in the air. An auto driver, Raju, also received serious bullet injuries. The incident happened when Revanth Reddy and his partymen were campaigning in the village and passing in front of the residence of G Krishna, vice-chairman of Mahbubnagar Zilla Parishad. This resulted in a clash. The Congress workers allegedly attacked Revanth with lethal weapons, damaged his car and fired at him with country revolvers. Revanth’s gunman fired in the air in retaliation. Revanth, who sustained bullet injury on his shoulder, was shifted to hospital. The police rushed to the spot and dispersed the warring party workers.
