With polling just 15 days away, the Praja Rajyam leadership has decided to focus on Andhra and Rayalseema regions as it is losing hopes on the Telangana region where it has no organisational base. The ongoing tour of the PR chief, Mr Chiranjeevi, in Godavari districts strengthens this view as he would continue to tour these districts till April 3, says a source.
Interestingly, Chiranjeevi’s actor brother and Yuva Rajyam president, Mr Pavan Kalyan, is taking up a three-day tour in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts. Mr Pavan, who is also looking after Telangana affairs cancelled his tour in Mahbubnagar district to campaign in north Andhra. Party sources said the leadership feels that focusing on regions where the party has a clout is better than concentrating on the entire state, “We enjoy considerable sway in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. So we will focus our attention in these regions to win maximum seats,” said a senior leader on condition of anonymity. Right from the inception of the party, the PR has failed to evoke a good response in Telangana despite its categorical support to separate statehood for Telangana.
